The desire to lose weight can be psychologically traumatic for many people. This can trigger behavioral changes that may or may not be influenced by environmental factors such as diet or nutrition.

However, a group of Australian researchers recently discovered that people who attempted to follow a low-carb eating plan scored the highest in measures of depression, anxiety, tension and dejection.

These findings were in direct comparison to another group that lost weight by following a more moderate macro-nutrient breakdown (46% carb, 24% protein and 30% fat.)

After 12 months, both groups lost the same amount of weight but those following the low carb diet seemed to be the least happiest during the process.
