Increasing the protein ratio within the diet appears to provide people with a multitude of benefits that point towards more efficient fat metabolism. For instance, studies have shown that replacing a high-carb diet with an increased ratio of protein results in significantly greater fat loss – even without restricting calories. These benefits are due to better control of blood sugar and insulin both of which are key to more efficient fat metabolism.

Other studies have shown that a high protein intake increases satiety between meals. We also know that a high-protein diet increases thermogenesis (an increase in heat production within the body). This effect triggers a higher rate of fat metabolism. Therefore, a diet that is high in protein and moderate in carbohydrates seems to be the research-proven strategy for improving body composition.
