Micronized CreatineThough you wouldn’t know it by going to your local gym, a study out of Australia has shown that a daily 5-gram dose of creatine monohydrate improves brain function. Yes, brain function! We are all aware of the physical performance-enhancing effects from creatine monohydrate, but now research has shown cognitive enhancing benefits as well.

In this study, one group of subjects was given a creatine supplement and a second group a placebo for six weeks, followed by a six-week period with no intake, and finally, a six-week period when the protocol of the control and placebo group were reversed. Intelligence and memory were tested at four specific points: the start of the trial; the end of the first six-week period; and the start and endpoint of the final six-week period.

The results of the study showed that brain creatine levels correspond with improved recall memory and a decrease in mental fatigue. “These findings underline a dynamic and significant role of brain energy capacity in influencing brain performance,” says Dr. Rae. “Increasing the energy available for computation increases the power of the brain, and this is reflected directly in improved general ability.”

Creatine plays an important role in maintaining energy levels in the brain, and this study concluded that; “creatine supplementation gave a significant measurable boost to brainpower.”

This is quite a significant finding. Everyone can benefit from improved brain function. More studies are revealing a wide array of benefits from creatine monohydrate supplementation.
