Research is beginning to pile up on how certain "fats" can actually promote fat loss. Some interesting research investigating some unique properties of olive oil has published over the last few years. Research is revealing that olive oil stimulates uncoupling proteins within the mitochondria (the fat burning furnace within cells).

There has been a major concentration of research on uncoupling proteins and fat loss in obesity research. Basically, uncoupling proteins accelerate the metabolism and allow the body to release energy as heat rather than storing it as fat. Spanish researchers have shown that rats fed olive oil (a monounsaturated fat) increased the activity of uncoupling proteins in fat and muscle cells.

People who live in the Mediterranean consume a rather high fat diet, yet they are remarkably healthy and free of heart disease. Most of the fat intake in these people’s diets is olive oil. This is one reason researchers have started to pay closer attention to olive oil. This recent research provides further evidence of the possible health benefit of olive oil.

It makes sense to get as much of your fat intake as possible from compounds that will enhance your physique goals. I’d add a serving of olive oil a day to complement your other essential fats like CLA 1000, Myo-D, safflower and flax oil. Try a couple of tablespoons a day add to your food. Olive oil is great drizzled over vegetables.
